At approximately 14:05 hours on June 3rd, 2004, Officer Kenneth Barker, ECHO 122, passed away as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred on May 31st, 2004. Officer Barker, 25, worked as both an SSG and an ATO officer. He has been posthumously awarded the call sign of SABER 122, and his number is being retired.
Kenneth served our community and protected our homeland, spending four years in the United States Marine Corps as a rifleman. During his time in the Marines, he served on the Honor Guard and was selected for Presidential Guard, a very high honor in the USMC. Kenneth also served as an escort for ambassadors visiting the White House as well as escorting Chelsea Clinton to the ballroom. He had an office in the Pentagon on the day of the 9/11 attacks; his office was hit, but he was not working that day. He was, however, in the area and assisted in recovering the remains of his co-workers and fellow officers.
Kenneth leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter, Madison; his fiancĂ©e, Beverly Mullins; his parents and grandparents; and a number of close relatives. Kenneth was an outstanding officer with this agency and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Barker’s family.
We are establishing a scholarship for his daughter to ensure that this child has a solid future despite her tragic loss. If you would like to make a contribution to the scholarship, send condolences, or otherwise assist the family of our fallen colleague, please email Mandy Holtz at holtzml@cisworldservices.org. Funeral arrangements with full honors for Kenneth are pending and will be announced on the CIS web site.
